Super sonic Ammo vs Sub Sonic (.22 LR Rimfire)

Posted by brijeshdhir22 on March 20, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Supersonic ammo is Faster than sub sonic (common Sense) so it'll take Less time to reach the target , which means that the wind will have less effect on it ? think again, it's travelling faster which means the Air resistance on it will also increase, so wind can have more effect on supersonic ammo...
Any way forget about every thing above....
Supersonic ammo is good but when travels somewhere arround 70 meters, it looses it's veocity and becomes subsonic.
the Shockwave of the bullet itself Throws it off balance and off target , so aslong as bullet stays above speed of sound till target hits , it's good ..
.22 LR rimfire  Match Grade Bullets are kept arround 325 or 330 m/s , just below the speed of sound, so for shooting targets at 50 meters , Subsonic is good , but depending on different Barrel lengths , it's worth giving supersonic a try ....alltough they'll make a cracking sound while passing by ...
